Discovered a raptor up in a tree after looking up at another bird circling the tree and screeching. Then the crows showed up, and they weren't happy. Raptor was gone in sixty seconds :-).

A 1961 vintage "L-shaped" Swingle Diner w/corner entryway. Torn down in 1987. I used to frequent this with a group of my friends in the 1970's (read - hang-out) when it was opened 24 hours a day. I was also interviewed here by the late Donald Dale Jackson for a November 1986 story in Smithsonian Magazine on "Diners" making me the most visible "Diner Buff" in the country at that time. dinerhotline posted a photo:
This was formerly Carroll's Diner of Medford, MA, 1948-62. It was replaced in 1962 by a 3-section colonial style diner built by Swingle (which was delivered in August 1961). This diner went back to Swingle's factory to be refurbished and it was sold and moved to Philadelphia in 1964. I believe the added on dining room on the right side (3 windows on right) was built at that time by Swingle. black and white all over posted a photo:

I'd read in the paper a while ago about The Danish Pastry House opening up with two locations in Medford and Watertown. This was exciting news for a girl with a name like Larsen, whose grandfather was born in Copenhagen and who likes to make pastry now and then. Matt's housemate Chris had been to the one in Watertown, but I'd not found it yet.
So imagine my delight last night when my excellent friend Dave, on the way home from a lecture we'd attended by artist Pat Keck, announced we were stopping in Medford at this "really amazing looking place" for tea and "a wee bite".
The place is beautiful and elegant, and to use a worn phrase, the pastries are absolutely to die for. Oh my, it is a VERY good thing that this place is not in walking distance from my abode.
We split one each of the two top ones here. Wish I'd written down the name of the one on the left. It was filled with what tasted like caramelized almond paste and was covered in poppy seeds. The "snai"(l) was like the Icelandic "hecla" I've come to love, only with a dollop of chocolate in the center.
Guess I'll have to go back some time to get that title. :-) gwennie2006 posted a photo:
Deanna Cremin would have celebrated her 30th birthday today. I am certain she would have made such a difference in today's world, it was her nature. There will be a memorial service for Deanna this Sunday, March 30, 2008 at St. Ann's Parish, 50 Thurston Street, Somerville, Massachusetts at 8:30am.
Her ambition and willingness to help others made Deanna very popular, and an incredible friend to so many. Deanna's ability to light up a room, as well as a person's life, is something that is greatly missed. Her never ending smile was quite contagious. The memorial service for Deanna Cremin on Sunday will also mark the 13th year since she was brutally murdered, and her brilliant life cut short. Her family and friends miss her so much, and hope and pray that this will be the year that Justice is served for Deanna Cremin.
There is new information in Deanna's Murder case (as of 7-13-07) Please read my last comment. A key suspect in Deanna's murder was due to be released from prison in September 2007. If you know ANYone in the Boston/Somerville Massachusetts area.....please copy and send my last comment. It is very important....and time is running out. Thank you so much!! gwennie2006@flickr.com
