Eastern side of the Passaic River on the Garfield/Elmwood Park border, about five blocks from my apartment. Route 21 and Clifton on the opposite bank. This wide area behind the 20-foot tall Dundee Dam is known as "Dundee Lake" and was once the water source for both Marcal Paper Mills Inc. (still operating, barely) and Garden State Paper (closed and being demolished for residential apartments). The Feds have wanted to lower the dam and lake for years now, citing safety concerns about the damn (which was built in 1860). Critics countered the lake is an excellent drought source and wildlife environment. The dam may get a refit/update during the massive clean up and developments (mostly parks) about to happen along this stretch of the river and south. Maybe the lake will even return to being a recreation hot spot again. miniata posted a photo:
