Altoona police say a dangerous dog attacked a little girl in the city this week.
Police say a pit bull attacked a three year old girl and actually ripped a chunk out of the girl's leg during the attack.
It happened Monday afternoon in the 600 block of 32nd Street in Altoona, but police are just now releasing the details.
They say the little girl and her parents were leaving their home and going to their car, when Sherri Manker's pit bull ran out and attacked the little girl. The dog actually ripped a part of the girls thigh off, dropped it on the ground and kept going after the girl. The girls parents tried to fight the dog off and eventually were able to. During that the dog also attacked the mother.
The parents rushed the girl to the hospital where she went into surgery. The mother was also treated for several bite wounds.
The dog was immediately quarantined, tested, and put to sleep.
Police say Manker didn't have a license for the dog and never got it vaccinated. Fortunately, the dog tested negative for rabies.
Manker now faces charges of Reckless Endangerment, Attacks by Dangerous Dogs, and several others. Those are all misdemeanors. Shell receive a copy of the charges in the mail.

What railfan has not heard of Horseshoe Curve. Located six miles west of Altoona in central Pennsylvania, Horseshoe Curve is just one part of what Trains Magazine once called the busiest mountain railroad in the world, the 37 miles of three track main line over the mountain, the former Pennsylvania Railroads crossing of the Allegheny Mountains and the Eastern Continental Divide. Norfolk Southerns line over this mountain today may not be the steepest grade in the country, or even the busiest any more, but this is big time railroading and even more tonnage squeals around Horseshoe Curve today than when it was Conrails or the Pennsylvanias main line across Pennsylvania. Horseshoe Curve and its environs are still one of the seven wonders of the railroad world, and one of the pilgrimages all railfans must take at least once in their lifetime. This program shows all the trains for 24 hours west of Cresson on the more accessible west slope which is still quite a challenge for the long trains that NS likes to run over the mountain, and trains shot at Altoona, the top of the hill at Tunnel Hill and Gallitzin, and at the Curve itself in August of 2008. NS around Horseshoe Curve is a two DVD, two tape set and is 2 hours, 53 minutes in length.
