Castle Class Number 5029 'Nunney Castle' finally has a chance to return to her former home today in Shrewsbury with 'The Ludlow Christmas Market' special beginning from London Paddington at 07.12 this morning with Diesel Class 67025 up front taking the mixed rake of Mk2s to Bristol, where 'Nunney' will join the train and make the difficult route to Shrewsbury over various Banks such as Horfield, Pilning, Severn Tunnel and The Marches line.
A late running local service put the Castle slightly behind schedule at Severn Tunnel Junction but she certainly didn't fail to impress! Powering out of Severn Tunnel as if she was made for the job, whistle freindly and galloping with an almost adorable beat.
Unfortunately, due to the late unit, she was put onto an amber signal so shut off just before the station which is such a shame.
With all going extremely well, we were all hoping for a perfect run up to Shrewsbury, unfortunately that wasn't to be the case with several Air Brake problems that were struggling to be resolved and eventually enough was enough so a loco was sent from Moreton to help bank the train to Shrwesbury where she arrived 295 mintues late (10 minutes after she was due to depart with the return) and was declared a 'failure' and shall rest there until further treatment.

5029 Nunney Castle hauls the "Ludlow Christmas Market" on the 29th November 2008.
First clip is 5029 coming up the last of the gradient out of the Severn tunnel and passing through the station.
We then move forward to the approach to Abergavenny, where due to a clearance problem Nunney Castle has to slow for a 5mph pass of the station.
A quick drive resulted in a quick handheld grab at Llanvihangel.
I was in the mood for a chase, but Hereford defeated me. 30 minutes to move about 200 yards near Tesco roundabout told me it would be futile, especially has the train was only booked a 12 minute water stop.
I got home to sadly hear that 5029 had been failed with a defective air pump (for the brakes) at Ludlow.
