MASHPEE - A fire at a condominium construction site was confined to one unit, according to a spokesman from the Mashpee Fire Department.
The cause of the blaze, which caused what firefighters described as a moderate amount of damage to the unit at Bayview Condominiums off Great Neck Road, is still under investigation.
Firefighters were called to the scene early this afternoon after workmen spotted smoke coming from the attic area of one unit.
According to the fire department, the fire was in a chimney chase connected to a gas-fueled fireplace being used for heat by workmen at the site.
FIrewalls in the unit and attic prevented the fire from spreading, said firefighters.

BOURNE, MA— Paul Conlon was generous, once giving his brand-new coat to a less-fortunate classmate and making sandwiches for a homeless man he saw on the street.
He was a schemer, organizing the boys in preschool to rob the girls' "pizza parlor."

That's why, instead of a moment of silence, he would want a round of applause, she said, as family, friends and community members filling the spacious sanctuary quickly took the cue.
Conlon, 21, a Mashpee High School graduate and a private first class in the U.S. Army, was killed in Afghanistan Aug. 15 when the military vehicle in which he was riding hit an improvised explosive device.
He was a dedicated soldier who always told others what he thought and always stopped to help his comrades, said Army Brig. Gen. Thomas Cole, the general assigned by the Army to attend the service.
Conlon was deployed to Afghanistan in February, and received a Purple Heart when he was wounded after a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle. His first reaction was to say he was sorry for being hurt, because he knew his fellow soldiers needed him, said Cole. He did not personally know Conlon but asked family members and his unit about him.
"You don't have to be giving orders to be a leader," Cole said. "Paul was a great leader, even as a young soldier."
Other family members and another representative from the Army offered prayers. Msgr. Daniel Hoye spoke of the collection of poetry that Conlon published for his senior class project.
