The context in which this was presented is the "suspicion" that "Ragtime music, as originally performed, was not always played "straight". This tune has always given me trouble, but not for what you might think. The signature rhythmic pattern is easy, it just defines the groove (catch the groove and away you go!). The "C" section, however (played in the original feel, and later while swinging), has never gelled in my head - the harmonic progression being atypical (for me). I think it is finally "sticking", though :)

As I am often performing for audiences (of a narrow demographic)
who are expecting a particular style, or period of music, the opportunity has been limited to perform more contemporary tunes. For this concert the audience, and the repertoire, was diverse. It was a good evening.

This concert contained several fun demonstrations of musical improvisation; this one being a collage of 5 melodies chosen by audience members. Cards were distributed with selections in the following categories: Traditional melodies, Christmas songs, classical themes, marches, and novelty tunes. The closing selection from my solo concert at the Prince Theatre (Chestertown, MD) on 11/14/08. All of my (many) senior presentations are concluded with this selection, and I guess I can't bring myself not to use it for a general audience also, but why not? This concluded a wonderful evening, where the "connection" between the stage and the audience was strong.

iStockPhoto.com contributors sometimes organize regional stock photography events in their neck of the woods. 3 years ago, I hosted 4 other iStock shooters to join me for a 2 day sailing/photography trip in the Annapolis area. Chessie'lypse was born.
2 years ago, I co-organized the second Chessie'lypse, a joint event between iStockPhoto.com and Washington College. This was a three day event, in Balitmore, Annapolis, and Chestertown, MD.
This second event was a much bigger undertaking, and I took the year off last year, hoping someone else would step in to organize the next event, which didn't happen.
Back to it's roots, this year's Chessie'lypse was back on the water, aboard my and another iStock shooter's boats. We made a 3 day trip of it, traveling to Baltimore and Annapolis by boat, visiting the cities on foot, and having a great time doing it!
