Thanks Guilford, especially Mr. Mellon for ruining a once thriving branch line. This line was heavily used for freight operations up to the mid 1980's, & once used for passenger operations up until the late 50's. Not that it's historical or anything, being that it's the oldest railroad in Maine (back to the 1800's). The pictures of most of the engines (565, & 571) were taken during the final 10 years of operation on this line.
This burns me up what Guilford did to put this line out of business for good. Lack of proper maintenance finally killed it in 1987, when it became too un-safe to run trains on it reliably anymore. I remember when the very engines in the pictures on this video ran the line, & my grandfather, & I would chase/watch them as they went through Moosehorn out the Charlotte Rd.
Farewell old friend....
The only thing left is the Woodland spur, & the DSRR portion in Ellsworth.

NAPA AutoCare 250 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado on July 24, 1999. This is the restart with four laps to go and Victory Lane.
Andy Santerre of Cherryfield, Maine captured his only NASCAR Busch Series (now Nationwide Series) victory in this race. Santerre broke his leg in six places after a crash in Daytona in February. He returned to Busch Series competition at Watkins Glen, and two starts later, he won his only race. He held off a tough Tim Fedewa to get the win. He and Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a great battle earlier, but Earnhardt spun and crashed off the nose of Todd Bodine's car.
Santerre went on to win four consecutive NASCAR Busch North Series (now Camping World Series East) championships from 2002-2005. He is now a car owner in the series. Santerre will be returning to racing in the Old School Racing Champions Tour in 2008.
